A livestock dispute at Alaba market in Lagos has sparked controversy after Aisha Alubankudi accused a trader identified as Adamu Yarima of allegedly taking away two rams and one goat from her newly arrived consignment.

Alubankudi, who narrated the incident in a social media narrative on Wednesday morning, said the animals were among 41 livestock transported from Gashua in Yobe State to Lagos.

According to her, the animals arrived safely and were allowed to rest before being moved to their final destinations.

“I did not buy any rams from him,” she said, explaining “I purchased 41 animals from Gashua in Yobe State, and they arrived in Lagos yesterday. I was advised to allow them rest before moving them to their final destinations.”

She disclosed that all the livestock had been marked for identification before the alleged incident occurred.

“All the goats, rams, and sheep were properly tagged or marked with initials for identification,” she stated.

Alubankudi said the handler who accompanied the animals from the north briefly left the area after spending two days transporting the livestock.

“The man who accompanied the animals stepped away briefly to have a bath after spending two days on the road transporting them,” she revealed, adding “When he returned, he was informed that Adamu Yerima had taken two rams and one goat, claiming they belonged to him.”

She further alleged that several attempts were made to resolve the issue amicably before she decided to speak publicly.

“He was called several times, and I also involved elders to peacefully resolve the matter, but he ignored all calls,” she stated, adding “It was only after he left me with no option that I posted the issue on social media.”

Alubankudi added that the matter has now been escalated to traditional authorities within the market.

“At the moment, Seriki Alaba is investigating the matter. Thank you,” she wrote.

The allegation has since generated reactions among traders and social media users, with many calling for a proper investigation into the ownership dispute.
