Gov Dapo Abiodun Gets A Brand New Nickname From Striking Workers

As the 7days warning strike in Ogun State gets underway, the Governor has been given a brand new name.

The new nickname is after one of the favorite characters in Charles Dickens’ famous novel Oliver Twist.

‘’It is the Artful Dodger’’ societynow.ng learned.

Artful Dodger is the popular street name of Jack Dawkins one of the colorful characters in the 1838 novel by Dickens.

It defines ‘’someone clever in difficult situations.’’

But the striking workers in Ogun State are using it represent Governor Dapo Abiodun’s dodgy attitude that resulted in the 7days warning strike that started today, September 16, 2020.

The Governor is accused of not fulfilling promises that resulted in massive support from workers which helped him to win the tensed 2019 gubernatorial election in Ogun State.

Comrade Emmanuel Bankole, the leader of the Labor Union in Ogun State insists the Governor has been dodging meeting with the workers to fashion out a realistic approach to fulfilling his pre-election pledge.

The Labor asserted at different forums that Governor Abiodun did not change his approach even in the face of the 14days ultimatum that heralded the commencement of the 7days warning strike.

This development threw up the governor’s new nickname of Artful Dodger..he dangled a carrot before the workers to get their help in getting out of the difficult pre-election troubles and has been dodging fulfilling his pack insiders disclosed.

Sources disclosed that the ongoing strike in Ogun State is ‘’total’’ as it cuts across all cadres of staff in ministry and government agencies.

The workers are agitating for the payment of the new minimum wage as agreed and singed as well as payment of pensions and gratuities to retirees amid agreement on other welfare issues as pledged by the Governor.
