Gov Bago Tells How Ganduje Emerged APC National Chairman & Basiru Secretary
The new National Chairman pledged to reposition
The Governor of Nigeri state, Umaru Bago has revealed how former governor Abdullahi Ganduje emerged as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress and ex-senator, Ajiobal Basiru became the ruling party’s secretary on Thursday, August 3, 2023.
Bago revealed that they were recommended by the National Caucus of the APC and the proposal ratified at the meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) on Thursday.

“The meeting which was also attended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President, Kashim Shetima, APC Governors and Law makers as well as other top officials, ratified the former governor of Kano state, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and former spokesperson of the Senate, Sen. Ajibola Basiru as the National Chairman and National Secretary of the APC respectively” the Governor disclosed in a statement released on Friday, August 4, 2023.

The statement signed by Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim further revealed that “The ratification followed the recommendation of the duo by the National Caucus of the party after the recent resignation of the erstwhile National Chairman, Sen. Adamu Andullahi and National Secretary, Sen. Iyiola Omisore”.

Released with the header “APC NEC Meeting”, the revelation further added that “The new National Chairman pledged to reposition the party for greater heights.”

Ganduje and Basiru were named National Chairman and Secretary of the APC at the 12th NEC meeting that was held in Abuja.

Immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari and former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo – both senior officials of the political party – were absent at the meeting.
They reportedly sent words of unavailability due to other engagements.
