The campaign of Tunji Abayomi, the man Governor of Ondo state is backing to replace Ajayi Boroffice in the Senate is troubled – before kickoff.

And the trouble is coming for individuals that formed a larger percentage of the voting population – the Youths.

Abayomi is the one saddled with the unpopular choice of hiking school fees of Adekunle Ajasin University By about 500% as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council.

He claimed the need to raise funds to provide a better quality of education as the primary reason.

The development which resulted in violent protests by students – aided by their sympathizers – has however turned around to start biting Abayomi’s political ambition.

His opponents – both within and outside his party, All Progressives Congress- have done a thorough job of “scapegoating him” in the hike in school fees mess.

And the situation has started making him unpopular as claims he actually made the recommendations for the jacked up school fees rent the air.Gov Rotimi Akeredolu

“He is now seen as the architect of the financial discomfort associated with the increased school fees and I tell you, that certainly isn’t good for someone about to seek votes from the people” an observer pointed out.

“It is one thing to enjoy the support of the governor and the party and another to be popular with the people” another source observed.

Akeredolu is keen to replace Boroffice as Senator representing Ondo North with more loyal Abayomi.

Unlike Borofice who worked against the emergence of Akeredolu as governor – by contesting against him – Abayomi put everything at stake for the former president of the Nigeria Bar Association, including publicly taking on influential politician Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“But the snowballing development with the increased in school fees of the university students is certainly something they didn’t plan for, especially the way it is heavily rubbing off on Abayomi” societynow.ng source disclosed.
