Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has directed state emergency and security agencies to provide full logistical and human support for ongoing search and rescue operations following the crash of a Nigerian Air Force aircraft in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area of the state.

The Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft, with tail number NGR 931, crashed in a swampy area opposite the Naval Base in Igbokoda on Monday morning while reportedly on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos.

According to the state government, the aircraft had 25 passengers and seven crew members on board, as confirmed by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.

Aiyedatiwa, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, expressed sympathy to the Chief of Air Staff, the Nigerian Air Force and families of those on board.

The governor directed the State Emergency Management Agency, Ministry of Health and relevant security agencies to immediately mobilise support for the Nigerian Air Force and other emergency responders at the crash site.

He also ordered that the area be cordoned off and secured to ensure unhindered rescue operations.

Aiyedatiwa urged residents of Igbokoda and neighbouring communities to remain calm, cooperate with emergency responders and avoid spreading unverified information.

The state government said it would continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available from the Nigerian Air Force.
