Florence Ajimobi Disowns Viral 2027 Election Video, Threatens Redress
stressing that she never made the remarks attributed to her
Florence Ajimobi, widow of former Oyo State governor Abiola Ajimobi, has disowned a viral video circulating on social media in which she is falsely portrayed as making comments linked to the 2027 gubernatorial election.
In a statement issued on her behalf on Friday, Ajimobi described the video as a complete fabrication generated through artificial intelligence, stressing that she never made the remarks attributed to her.
“This video is a synthetic fabrication created using generative AI. At no time did I make the statements being attributed to me,” the statement declared.
The late governor’s widow disclosed that a digital forensic review had confirmed the footage was a deepfake, created by manipulating her image, lip movements and voice to deliver a scripted message she did not author or endorse.
According to the statement, “Artificial intelligence was used to impersonate my voice and manipulate visual elements to convey a message I never spoke.”
Ajimobi warned that the circulation of the video represents a dangerous misuse of technology, particularly as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections begin to intensify.
She said such practices pose a serious threat to public trust and democratic discourse, noting that “the weaponisation of synthetic media to mislead the public sets a dangerous precedent for our democracy.”
The former first lady of Oyo state urged members of the public, media organisations and security agencies to disregard the video and treat it as a malicious hoax, calling for greater caution and verification in the sharing of politically sensitive content online.
“We urge the public and the media to verify the authenticity of such content before amplifying it,” the statement added.
Ajimobi also said she reserves the right to pursue legal action against those responsible for creating and deliberately distributing the fraudulent video, adding that she remains committed to truth, responsible civic engagement and the democratic process.
