In a proactive step towards supporting the psychological well-being of its workforce, the Federal Fire Service (FFS), in collaboration with Bright Future Community Healthcare Services, LLC, has unveiled a comprehensive mental health care program targeted at officers across all stations nationwide.

The official announcement of the initiative took place today at the conference hall of the Service’s National Headquarters in Abuja, marking the beginning of the program’s introductory phase. The event was led by Dr. Emmanuella Owobu, head of the implementing healthcare team, who emphasized the critical importance of early intervention and continuous support for officers exposed to high-stress environments. She disclosed that the full implementation of the mental health program would commence in the near future.

Representing the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Engr. Jaji Abdulganiyu O., MIFireE, MNSE, was the Deputy Controller General in charge of Administration and Supply, Olumode Samuel. In his address, he described the initiative as both laudable and timely, noting that many fire personnel face mental health challenges particularly Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) due to the demanding nature of their duties.

“This program is a step in the right direction to ensure that our officers are not only physically fit but also mentally resilient. Our commitment to their overall well-being is unwavering,” he remarked.

The event was well attended by heads of departments, and unit of the Service, signaling broad institutional support for the program’s implementation.

The initiative aims to provide ongoing counseling, support systems, awareness campaigns, and access to professional care as part of the Service’s holistic approach to personnel welfare.
