Former Commissioner of Police Fatai Owoseni has revealed why the problems afflicting the Nigeria Police may be a long while from coming. Owoseni disclosed that the police is an ‘’orphan’’.
The former police boss in Lagos state disclosed that no Inspector General of Police would confront the government with the problems afflicting the police because of trying to sustain their ‘’position’’.
Owoseni spoke as a guest on Channels Television’s early morning program ‘’Sunrise Daily’’. Insisting that the problem of the police is administration and funding, Owoseni slammed politicians who tarnish the image of force as ‘’Bag Carriers’’ for wives of top shots.
‘’Who are the officers carrying the bags for? Their wives’’ Owoseni stated pointing out that the accusers are in the best position to eradicate that particular ill by putting a stop to it from their ends.
The police force top man who spoke in a no holds barred manner insisted that the police is in a better position to contribute greatly to eradicating the insecurity occasioned by Boko Haram and rogue herdsmen with proper support.
‘’The army has been taken out of its primary function to perform this task which is why we now have a weak military’’ Owoseni pointed out.
Insisting the solution to the problems of the police is not setting up of committees made up of people with no knowledge of how the police operate, Owoseni reiterated that putting the police back on track should the product of conscious internal efforts and adequate funding from the government.
Owoseni was retired along with 54 other police officers about 6months ago.
