“Emefiele Is In Our Custody” – DSS Finally Confirms, Tells Reason

The Department of State (DSS) has confirmed that the suspended Governor of Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele is in its custody.

“The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby confirms that Mr Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is now in its custody for some investigative reasons,” a statement issued by spokesperson, Peter Afunanya today stated.

The confirmation comes hours after the whereabouts of Emefiele became subject of intense speculation.

Emefiele was suspended as Central Bank Governor on Friday, June 9, 2023 as part of investigation into his office.

““This is sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy” a statement from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) that announced his suspension stated.

The development was followed by news that Emefiele was in the custody of the DSS but the secret agency denied the claims in a social media post asserting that “Currently, Emefiele is not with the DSS.”

Currently, Emefiele is not with the DSS.

The initial denial resulted in intense speculation about the whereabouts of Emefiele until the DSS confirmed the suspended CBN Governor is in its custody.

The agency in also issued an advisory that “The public, particularly the media, is enjoined to apply utmost caution in the reportage and narratives concerning this.”
