The inspector-general of police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has adopted a new security strategy as the Nigeria Police Force prepares for the last quarter of 2025.

Egbetokun, who convened a strategic conference with assistant inspectors-general and commissioners of police at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, said the session was aimed at performance review, strategic planning and operational recalibration.

He commended the improvement in command posture, tactical responses, and supervisory presence across the country since the last meeting in July, noting that the gains have boosted public confidence and enhanced operational outcomes.

The police chief said Nigeria is currently facing complex, hybrid threats, and charged senior officers to embrace intelligence-driven policing, seamless coordination, and visible leadership in order to outpace criminal elements.

Presenting a two-month operational scorecard, Egbetokun disclosed that between July 31 and September 23, the police arrested 4,383 suspects nationwide for various serious offences. The arrests included 481 armed robbery suspects, 260 alleged kidnappers, 371 individuals linked to murder or culpable homicide, 161 for unlawful possession of firearms, 322 suspected rapists, 375 suspected cultists, and 2,413 others for assorted crimes.

He added that 716 assorted firearms, 21,238 rounds of ammunition, and 212 vehicles were recovered during the period, while 1,138 kidnapped victims were rescued.

Looking ahead to the ember months, the inspector-general directed zonal AIGs and state commands to strengthen visibility policing frameworks, step up community engagement, and intensify proactive patrols across highways, feeder roads and forest corridors, areas often prone to heightened criminal activity during the festive season.

Egbetokun said the conference ended with a renewed commitment from senior officers to strengthen operational calendars for October to December and sustain the tempo of crime prevention and law enforcement nationwide.
