…Foriegn Investors, guests flabbergasted!

The Governor of Ekiti state, Kayode Fayemi just executed an astounding act.

He drove to the venue of a commissioning and contract signing ceremony with international investors- refused to alight from his car and cancelled the event with stakeholders already seated, including his deputy governor!

He later came back about 50minutes later to angrily conduct the ceremony.

Informants claimed this was the scenario that came to be this morning (Tuesday, October 09 2012) at Ado Ekiti.

The event was the commissioning and contract signing of a N5b project to be undertaken by Chinese firm- C.T.C.

The undertaken is tagged ‘a massive Civic Centre and Museum’.

The site- which also served as the venue of the botched ceremony- is identified as grounds of the former Ekiti state prisons. It is directly opposite the Fire Fighters office.

C.T.C, the Chinese company that is charged with undertaking the construction is described as owned by the government of China.

The incident that played out at Ado Ekiti is now viewed ‘a diplomatic blunder’ on the part of Fayemi.

Narrating the incident, sources claimed as early as 10a.m guests were already seated for the happenstance.

Amongst the ‘on seat’ were listed as the National Executive Officer of C.T.C, his officers and some officials of the Chinese diplomatic corps, Ekiti state Deputy Governor, Commissioners and other top level civil servants, business men and supporters from far and near.

And of course, the ubiquitous political jobbers and hangers on.

Some of the supporters and business men with political leanings wore a special chosen ‘ankara attire’ for the occasion.

There were drumming and singings with great expectations of what to be, when Governor Fayemi drove in at about 11.30a.m.

He had a hurried but obviously upsetting conversation with some of his aides (through his car window) and it was announced ‘ the event is cancelled’ as he zoomed off.

The guests and investors were caught flat footed and flabbergasted.

The Deputy Governor and her aides reeled in confusion for about fifteen minutes at the venue trying to get a hang of what was amiss, after the announcement before taking their leave.

Frantic phone calls were the lot of the investors and their sympathizers- as they tried to effect ‘damage control’ while technical persons dismantle the podium and related apparatus.

It was confusion in the midst of disorderliness as dignitaries attempted to take their leave- at the same time ‘get a reasonable explanation’ for what came to be.

However while the venue became deserted by the minute- the dogged Chinese investors stayed put, making phone calls and walking the length and breadth of the site.

They had sent a delegation after the Governor and his crew.

Some 50mins later- their efforts paid off, for reasons yet to be ascertained, Mr Fayemi and his entourage returned.

But they wore long faces.

According to a source ‘they even refused to acknowledge their supporters, when hailed!’

Maintained an observer ‘ the podium and other things where hurriedly put back and the ceremony kick started’

An informant claimed, what was amazing was that Fayemi appeared not happy doing the ceremony, like he was forced to do it- despite being the Chief Executive Officer of Ekiti state’
