Details: Reps Give Akpabio 24hrs To Publish Names, Contracts Given To Members By NDDC

The Federal House of Representatives has given the embattled Minister for Niger Delta Affairs, Godwin Akpabio 24hrs to publish the names of members that got contracts from the Niger Delta Development Commission.

The House of Representatives made the calls through Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila who stated during plenary today- Tuesday, July 21, 2020 – that “This is my 5th term here and I have never for once collected anything from the National Assembly and I know I speak for a great majority of members of this House, a great majority. And because of that, I will take this allegation and accusation very seriously.

“And I will give the minister (Akpabio) 24 to 48 hours. Clerk, I want you to back this up with a letter from this House. Give the minister 24 to 48 hours to publish the names, the contracts so given, the dates because obviously these things will be documented; unveil the companies of the 60 per cent projects that were given to members of the National Assembly.”

The directive from the Speaker received thunderous backing from the members present at today’s session.

The directive to Akpabio comes in the wake of the allegations by the Minister that National Assembly members got 60 percent of contracts given out by the NDDC.

The Akpabio made the grave statement during a live hearing by a probe panel set up by the House of Representatives investigation alleged N81billion rocking the NNDC.

Akpabio and Pondei, the acting Managing Director of the NDDC have been indicted in the corruption mess based on disclosures by former M.D Joy Nunieh.
