Desmond Elliot is hurting on all fronts.

And he is speedily losing support bases.

Elliot, the actor turned state lawmaker made a passionate advocate for better use of the social media space.

The submission that he made during plenary endeared him to colleagues, those who are already advocating for such – and players seeking to infamously control public speech.

But the lawmaker representing Surulere state constituency at the Lagos State House of Assembly got on the wrong side of the army of youths that serve as his support base on and offline with a term in his submission – and intepretation the entirety of his message was given.

The 44year old branded the youths “children” and they see his submission as advocating a control of the social media space by government.

The talks of need to control the social media with Minister Lai Mohammed infamously leading the charge is widely viewed as attempt to gag free speech against the dictate of the constitution.

And many people, particularly the youths are ferociously against it.

societynow.ng learned that this one of the major reasons why Elliot’s advocacy on the floor of the Lagos House of Assembly earned him a massive blowback.

He has been termed “betrayer”, ‘’Desmond Iscariot & Desmond Judas” by the youths who believed he represents their interests.

Some have gone as far as mutilating his name and changed it to “Desmond Hediot”.

Damning and damaging allegations about his personal life have started coming up as the vexed youths engaged in an all-out war with him.

Elliot’s election as a state lawmaker is one of the results of the agitation for the inclusion of youths in governance.

Fearing for the fallout of the rage shown by youths, including very well known social media influencers and celebrities, Elliot hurriedly released a public apology and granted a near to tears interview pleading for forgiveness from the angry youths and colleagues.

This move turned those that applauded Elliot’s submission for better narratives on social media against him.

They branded him a coward for not standing firm on his conviction.

Some of the lawmaker’s colleagues in the Lagos state House of Assembly are said to have chided him for the “shameful apology”.

Fans who supported his “moving speech” minus the comment of “children” condemn the “speed “of his apology, particularly the near to tear interview on Arise T.V.

Insiders disclosed that added to this mess is damning revelations that are threatening the peace in Elliot’s marriage that the whole mess has thrown up.

There are trending allegations of adultery and a love child thrown into the mix.

“The sad thing for me is that he appears to be flipping sides in the bid to remain popular and comes across as not having any conviction” a source stated.
