Details As Nurses, Doctors Withdraw Services From All Institutions In Ogun State Over Kidnapping

Nurses and Doctors have withdrawn their services from institutions in Ogun state effective midnight of Tuesday, April 13, 2021 societynow.ng learned.

A joint committee of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and the National Association of Nigerian Nurses And Midwives (NANNM) commuted this development to the Ogun state Commissioner for Health Tomi Coker in a letter dated Monday, April 12, 2021.


The letter written on the official letter head of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses And Midwives cited the inability of the Government of Governor Dapo Abiodun to protect the lives of health workers as a reason for the action societynow.ng learned.


The letter referenced the abduction of a Doctor and Nurse in Ogun state on April 7, 2021 and the kidnap of another health worker – Dental Therapist – yesterday, April 12 as evidence that “security of lives and properties of the citizens of the state is way out of the control of the government”

While insisting that “it is glaring that the safety of health workers is no longer guaranteed” – in Ogun state –  in the letter to the commissioner for health, the associations declared “immediate withdrawal of the services of our members from all institutions until the safety of our members is guaranteed. Effective from 12 Midnight. 13th April 2021.”

“We do hope that the government will make the security of lives and properties a matter of priority and see to it immediately” the letter to the commissioner announcing withdrawal of services of health workers in state’s institutions ended.
