Deputy Gov Ajayi Who Defected From APC & Was Trounced As The Candidate Of Another Party In Akeredolu’s Re-election Victory Raises Fresh Alarm Over Alleged Plot To Impeach Him
Eniola Ajayi
Deputy Governor of Ondo state Agboola Ajayi has raised another alarm of a plot to impeach him by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
Ajayi who defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) but ended up as the flag bearer of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) for the October 19 Ondo State gubernatorial election and was trounced in the election that earned Akeredolu a second term in office claims the sack of the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Kolawole Olawoye on Monday, November 23, 2020 is part of a grand plot to impeach him.
Ajayi has refused to resign his position as Deputy Governor to Akeredolu despite defecting from the party that brought him to office and contesting against his boss in the recently held gubernatorial election in Ondo State.
He insists he would see out his tenure as the deputy governor of Ondo state based on the joint ticket that brought him to office.
Societynow.ng gathered that at stake are the benefits that come as a former number two man in the state if he sees out his term.
The deputy governor has, however, raised an alarm that his ambition is been threatened by surreptitious moves by Akeredolu.
Ajayi alleged that the sack of Attorney General Olawoye on Monday and the ouster of the Deputy Speaker of the Ondo state House of Assembly, Ogundeji Iroju today, Tuesday, November 24, 2020, are part of a scheme to remove him from office by Governor Akeredolu.
The deputy governor raised this alarm in a statement by his Media Adviser, Allen Sowore which reads in part “Today, Mr. Governor has clandestinely orchestrated the announcement of the removal of the Deputy Speaker of the House Of Assembly, Rt Honourable Ogundeji Iroju without any due process.
“All these are premeditated efforts to circumvent the institutions of state and usurp the powers of both the legislative and judiciary arms of government to pave way for the illegal removal of the Deputy Governor.
“The general public should be wary of these latest antics and desperation of the Governor to remove his Deputy through a macabre plan to forged signatures of members of the State House Of Assembly on the prepared impeachment notice.”
The checks by societynow.ng revealed that the deputy governor first raised alarm over plots to remove him by governor Akeredolu ahead of the October 19 2020 Ondo state gubernatorial election but he survived the plot but the outcome of the latest unfolding drama remains to be seen.
