Dapo Abiodun, the Governor of Ogun state, and the Senator representing Ogun West, Solomon Adeola otherwise known as Yayi are in a silent battle.

They are in a struggle for the support of members of their party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun Central.

Abiodun who is on his second term- and constitutionally allowed last term – in office is from Ogun East while Senator Yayi who is engulfed in the campaign to become the next Governor of Ogun state is from Ogun West.

Although they worked hand-in-glove to help Abiodun win his first term in 2019 and second term in 2023, there are talks that the two politicians are on different sides regarding who becomes the next governor.

Abiodun, Yayi

They are separately amassing support among party members ahead of the 2027 election.

Yayi who started work on his gubernatorial ambition around 2012 is stealthily establishing his presence in other zones after securing the massive support in his home turf of Ogun West – that earned him a senatorial seat in 2023.

He is said to be comprehensively reaching out to groups and caucuses in Ogun Central and other places through empowerment and related touching live gestures.

Abiodun is said to be reacting to the moves with counter-efforts to sway the Senator’s targets to his side.

“The party members are having the best of the two sides, but many prefer Yayi because of the promises he holds. Yayi is incoming and DA (Dapo Abiodun) is outgoing and there are claims of sidelining before Yayi started his overtures” according to an insider.
