Sympathisers of Senator Gbenga Daniel have raised alarm over what they describe as a fresh plot by Governor Dapo Abiodun to intensify his political battles within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun state.

According to them, the governor’s rift with the former governor has gone beyond the recent suspension from the party and is now tilting toward an alleged move to initiate a recall process against the senator representing Ogun East in the National Assembly.

Daniel’s allies claim the move is designed to edge him out ahead of the 2027 elections, alleging that Abiodun is interested in the senatorial seat. They accused the governor of deploying the state party structure for personal ambitions and said attempts were being made to mobilise grassroots elements to execute the plan.

While acknowledging that a recall is provided for in the constitution, the senator’s camp argued that it is not a mechanism to settle political scores. They expressed concern that the process could be manipulated through intimidation, adding that such a strategy was unlikely to succeed without genuine support from the electorate.

The group alleged that transport union leaders who were previously linked with unrest during a by-election in the state have been approached to enforce the agenda, warning that Ogun could again witness violence and harassment of citizens.

They criticised the silence of political elders over the matter and called for the intervention of the party’s national leadership to prevent a descent into what they described as political thuggery.

“Today it is Senator Daniel, tomorrow it could be anyone else. The peace of Ogun state and the integrity of our democratic institutions should not be sacrificed for political ambition,” one of the sympathisers said.

The Senator shared details of the claims on his social media handle.
