Court Sends Surety, Adewole Lukman To Kirikiri Maxium Prison Over Inability To Produce EFCC Suspect, Segun Akintayo

A surety, Adewole Lukman Olaniyan has been sent to Kirikiri maximum prisons over inability to proudce Segun Akintayo, the suspect he guaranteed his release from custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The EFCC arraigned Adewole at a Lagos High court today for making false statement regarding his guarantee to produce Akintayo on demand.

He was arraigned before Justice O. H. Oshodi of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja on a one-count charge bordering on making a false statement to a public officer contrary to Section 96 (a) Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2011.

According to information obtained from saharareporters, Adewole reportedly faciliated the release of Akintayo from EFCC custody on January 12 2016 but failed to produce him on demand – contrary to his pledge.

The charge against him reads:

“Adewole Lukman Olaniyan on or about the 12th January, 2016 at Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court, with intention to causing Remedy Yange Sulvanus, a public officer employed as an Operative in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) release one Segun Akintayo on bail to you, falsely informed the officer to use his lawful authority to release the said Segun Akintayo on bail to you; an action he would not have taken if he had not relied on your undertaking”.

Adewole pleaded not guilty to the charge and prosecting counsel requested the court fix a date for trial and remand him in prison custody.

The prayers were granted and he was sent to Kirikiri maximum prison, Apapa, Lagos and case adjourned to October 26, 2017 for trial.
