The planned visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to the flag of his party’s campaign in Ogun state scheduled for today – Thursday, January 31, 2019 -has been shifted.

The new date is revealed as February 12.

Societynow.ng gathered that there are behind the scene intrigues that forced the shift in the date of the President’s visit to state capital Abeokuta.

Insiders confirmed to societynow.ng that at stake is President’s endorsement of either the preferred candidate of Governor Ibikunle Amosun or that of the party in Ogun state.

Amosun is backing Adekunle Akinlade, the gubernatorial candidate of the rival political party, Allied People’s Movement to succeed him.

The leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state – and at the national level – are strongly behind the party’s flag bearer Dapo Abiodun to become the next governor of Ogun state.

Amosun and the party leaders – on opposing sides – are fighting hard to get the president to openly side with them.

The party leaders appeared to have an edge until the President’s bombshell at the flag off campaign in Imo state.

Buhari urged the people of Imo state to vote for him as President but choose any party – or candidates – of choice to vote for in elections into other positions.

‘’We cannot afford to have the president make such a campaign in Ogun state’ a source confided to societynow.ng.

Insiders disclosed the fight between Amosun and his party leaders have become so tensed that there are talks of threats and violence loyalists as supporters of either side strive to prove loyalty to their patrons.

Societynow.ng gathered with both sides claiming to have the President’s backing in their actions, the visit to by the President to Ogun state was keenly looked forward to – especially by the backers of Dapo Abiodun, the party’s gubernatorial candidate.

Societynow.ng gathered Amosun that Amosun was not really keen on the President’s visit for an obvious reason – the governor is the underdog in the situation of things.

‘’But the party leaders opted changed tactics and opted for a shift in the date of the Buhari’s campaign in Ogun state because of the uncertainty that now envelopes what he might do or not do’’ a source disclosed.

‘’It would certainly be a big blow to the claim of legitimacy sustaining the gubernatorial campaign of Abiodun if Buhari comes to Abeokuta and repeat his performance in Imo state’’ a source stated emphatically.

Insiders disclosed that the two sides for obvious reason aligned and worked together for the shift of the President’s campaign in Ogun state to a date when whatever he does would do minimal damage to their campaigns.

The President is now scheduled to campaign in Ogun state on February 12. And the general election kicks off on February 16.
