Barely Hours In The Saddle, Oshiomhole Faces Major Test As APC Chairman
Barely hours after he assumed office, Newly sworn in National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole is facing his first major challenge.
And it all about the upcoming primary election to determine the party candidate for the Osun state gubernatorial election.
Oshiomhole is accused of leaning towards the agenda of making Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s stepbrother and anointed candidate Gboyega Oyetola as party candidate – against popular demand- even before he officially became party chairman.
And the allegations have refused to go away but became more intense.
Petitions are said to be growing wings over the development from this and that stakeholders
The agenda to make Oyetola Osun APC’s gubernatorial candidate is reportedly primarily being promoted by outgoing Governor Rauf Aregbesola and Asiwaju Tinubu
The duo is said to be plotting a tweak of the upcoming gubernatorial primary election to achieve their aim.
“With John Oyegun in charge, and the way he handled the Anambra, Ondo and Ekiti primaries they were sure in for a hard time with their agenda but with Oshiomhole in charge there are raging speculation he would work hand in glove with them” a source claimed.
Societynow.ng gathered that the shadow election to determine the Osun APC gubernatorial candidate is fixed for Saturday, July 7, 2018.
But doubts of a possible shift of the process to accommodate the agenda of Tinubu by the new APC national chairman is already trending.
According to a source, “the Osun primary poll is a litmus test for Oshiomhole and his new team and posers making the round are Will he manipulate the primary in favour of Tinubu’s brother? Will change the party’s winning formula that worked in Anambra, Ondo, and Ekiti? I mean the delegate or indirect election for the direct primary which his godfather wants? Will he organize a free and fair primary, surpassing his predecessors’ records of uniting the party after the primary? Those are the questions party members across board are asking”.
Societynow.ng gathered that there are threats of protest votes against the APC -in and out of the party – in Osun based on clams Tinubu will never be allowed to determine who becomes the next governor of the state.
