‘’My name is Jimi Agbaje and by May 29, 2019, I will become the next Governor of Lagos state” were the first words the People’s Democratic Party candidate uttered on Saturday, December 1, 2018.

‘’Simple, authoritative and very prophetic on the first day of the last month of the year, and the first day of campaign” a source at the Ultima Studio, Off Admiralty Road, Lekki, Lagos venue of the event stated.

The declaration was greeted by a thunder of applause from the audience present.

Checks by societynow.ng revealed those in attendance were drawn from different areas in the state and made up of representatives of various ethnic, social, political groups and civil society associations.

The PDP candidate provided reasons he is the best man for the job as he tackled major campaign points of the opposition against him headlong.

Reacting to talks of going into the election with a depleted rank based on the defections of former minister Musiliu Obanikoro and ex-state chairman of his party Moshood Salvador, Agbaje stated simply, the strength of a politician is measured by the forces under his control.

‘’How many people did they leave the PDP with?” Agbaje asked.

And provided clarity ‘’the former chairman left alone.”

The People’s Democratic Party gubernatorial candidate in Lagos state insisted defections are hugely celebrated based on the gains in numbers but in these cases, it is the contrary.

The PDP candidate leveraged on another major campaign point of the opposition to show his seriousness of approach in the plan to become the next governor of Lagos state.

‘’If you are really serious about something, you keep trying until you get it” Agbaje reacted to claims he has failed to win the Lagos gubernatorial election after multiple trials.

He dismissed the talks of ‘’regular customer” with facts about winners who won big after series of trials – and to validate Agbaje’s claim, history puts the banner boy of the ruling All Progressives Congress, President Muhammadu Buhari into this category.

Taking perfectly aimed shots at the ruling All Progressives Congress in Lagos state – particularly the political family holding on to power in the state -, Agbaje insist it has failed in the areas of the road network, transportation, housing, power, education and provision of Health care.

The PDP gubernatorial candidate in Lagos state provided background for his assertion with different examples and graphic representation of the ‘’reality on ground”.

He insisted within four years the situation would change for the better with his administration in charge.

Agbaje stated it is very sad that Lagos falls into the category of one of the only two megacities in the world without a light rail system.

‘’They have been on it for the past twelve years, we will get it done in four years” the PDP candidates asserted.

“My administration will be a believable administration and I am in the race for service not for self. They are in politics for selves. They have said that I am their ‘customer’. But I want to tell them that the customer is the king and he is always right. By March 2019, the rest will be history because this election will be decided by the people of Lagos who yearn for freedom, and not by political parties,”

Touching a major area of concern in Lagos – and Nigeria –, Agbaje earned thunderous applause at the occasion when he disclosed that 1000 megawatts of power would be targeted in four years to muscle up and boost the economic fortune of the people.

The gubernatorial candidate revealed that his administration’s health care programme would be built around health insurance schemes.

Showing rather than saying he intends to carry his deputy governorship candidate, Mrs Haleemat Oluyemisi Busari in his administration, Agbaje invited her on stage to shed light on the plan to make Lagos state better.

Busari spoke on the zeal the behind the make Lagos better plan and urged Lagosians to help actualize it an engagement that drew the curtain on the first day of the campaign.
