Aregbesola Strengthens Political Might
strengthening his status as a force to be reckoned with
Former Governor Rauf Aregbesola has taken steps to strengthen the might of his political caucus in Osun state.
The move comes with the inauguration of the remaining members of the “management of the Omoluabi Progressives.”
The inauguration was done on March 24, 2024, on the heels of an earlier swearing-in of the state coordinators of the caucus on February 25, 2024.
Political watchers describe the back-to-back developments as bold steps to entrench the influence and might of the caucus on the landscape of the politics of Osun state.
The Omouluabi Progressives founded by the former Governor who holds the official position of grand patron is described as a body of the genuine foundation members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun state.
Aregbesola who nurtured the growth of the APC during his time as a two-term Governor of Osun state (November 27, 2010 to November 27, 2018) declared during the launch of the Omoluabi Progressives on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, that “we are the genuine foundation members of the party and we have no intention of abandoning the ship of the party as it navigates the most turbulent waters. We are no sprinters, but long-distance runners and we will still be standing when all the fair-weathers have gone.”
The emergence of the Omoluabi Caucus offers protection for Aregbesola’s followers who have been on the receiving end of the political in-fighting within the Osun state chapter that took away control from the Governor and cost former governor Adegboyega Oyetola his second term ambition.
Oyetola, who is the Minister for Marine and Blue Economy, and his co-travelers are currently in charge of the mainstream APC in Osun state.
Their takeover of the APC had relegated Aregbesola to the back row but the launch of Omoluabi Progressives has returned the former Minister for Interior to the forefront with recent steps strengthening his status as a force to be reckoned with.
