APC Tells Why Ganduje Resigned As National Chairman
resignation takes immediate effect
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed the resignation of its National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, CON, stating that the former Kano State governor stepped down to attend to urgent personal matters.
In an official statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC announced that Ganduje’s resignation takes immediate effect and has been formally communicated to the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) through the National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru.
“His resignation, which is effective immediately, was offered to enable him attend to urgent and important personal matters,” the party said.
Dr. Ganduje, who took over the reins of the ruling party in August 2023 following the resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu, expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve at the highest level of the party’s leadership.
In response to the development, President Tinubu has directed the Deputy National Chairman (North), Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori, to step in as Acting National Chairman.
The President also instructed that an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting be convened to fill the leadership vacuum.
During his tenure, Ganduje was credited with promoting internal party unity and driving electoral strength, including notable defections from rival parties and judicial victories that affirmed the party’s leadership across several fronts.
His leadership received a vote of confidence during the party’s NEC and National Caucus meetings in February 2025, a move the party described as a “profound recognition” of his service.
“Dr. Ganduje leaves his position as National Chairman with great pride in our collective achievements,” the statement added, highlighting his role in strengthening party structures and aligning the APC’s goals with the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ of President Tinubu.
While appreciating Ganduje’s contributions, the APC assured its members and supporters that the party remains focused on delivering “transformative governance for all Nigerians.”
The NWC also extended prayers for his continued good health and success in future endeavours.
