Amosun’s Condolence Visit To Dapo Abiodun “Backfires”

But the “consequences” appeared not to be playing out in a way that flatters those involved.

Former Governor of Ogun state Ibikunle Amosun, 63, on Monday, August 16, 2021, paid a condolence visit to the family of his successor, Dapo Abiodun, 61.

The visit was to commiserate with the Abiodun family over the death of their patriarch Pa Emmanuel Adesanya Abiodun who passed on at the age of 89.

The Governor’s father died in London on Monday, August 2, 2021, and Amosun who succeeded Lanre Tejuosho as the Senator representing Ogun Central paid his condolence visit on Monday, August 16, 2021.

The checks by societynow.ng revealed that Amosun visited the Iperu Remo, Ogun state residence of the Abioduns’ at about 10.38 a.m and reportedly spent less than ten minutes.

The former Governor made the condolence visit in the company of one of his hardcore loyalists Mikcy Hassan, a former House of Representatives member, before the chief mourner Governor Abiodun was around.

This development rather than show compassion on the part of Amosun has brought the intense rivalry between the two leading politicians into focus.

“It created the perfect opportunity for throwing mud shots at the APC (All Progressives Congress) in Ogun state and again sparked speculations of possible implosion ahead the 2023 general election.” societynow.ng learned.

Many believe the move has turned out a not so spectacular one as talks trailing it paint the party in not so colorful paints.

Amosun fought with all he had in a futile move to stop Abiodun, his party man from becoming the Governor of Ogun state.

The rivalry continued after Abiodun was sworn as Governor on May 29, 2019, and Amosun assumed the position of Senator.

Both sides refuse to back down as they wrestle over who controls the party structure in Ogun state.

They have maintained animosity on all fronts including the recent APC congress in Ogun state with Amosun forced to voice out that he would submit a list of members and party executives separate from the handed in by the one Governor Abiodun is associated with to national headquarter of the party.

Societynow.ng gathered that this is against the background that both Abiodun and Amosun were very close friends and Amosun almost helped Dapo Abiodun become Senator in Ogun East but for the politically formidable Kashamu Buruji (late) who derailed the plan by claiming victory for himself as the candidate of the opposition People’s Democratic Party(PDP).

“Many believed that the demise of Governor Abiodun’s father and the burial things such as condolence visits and related affairs would force an interaction that may be the beginning of the healing of wounds but obvious, that notion appears far-fetched for now based how things are playing out” societynow.ng learned.
