Governor Seyi Makinde has proscribed the Oyo state chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers.

Insiders disclosed to societynow.ng that the action is a deft move at taking control of street power.

Societynow.ng learned that the decision by Makinde would allow his loyalists to take over the running of the transport union in Oyo state.

The Union which provides very strong street support to the government – and politicians – is currently being controlled by loyalists of immediate past Governor Abiola Ajimobi led by Alhaji Abideen Olajide more popularly known as Ejiogbe.

Ejiogbe who is a staunch supporter of Ajimobi became the NURTW chairman in Oyo state mid last year with the death of Alhaji Taofeek Oyerinde widely known as Fele.

Ejiogbe was the Deputy of Fele who became the Transport Union’s top man when Ajimobi came to power in 2011.

Ejiogbe retained a top position in the Oyo NURTW all through Ajimobi’s two-term as Governor till today’s proscription of the union by Makinde.

The investigation conducted by societynow.ng revealed that Auxilliary – Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi – looks strong to return as Chairman of the Oyo NURTW with today’s order by Makinde.

Well known as a staunch supporter of new Governor Makinde’s political party (PDP), Auxilliary was the NURTW Chairman when Ajimobi came to power in 2011 and orchestrated his(auxilliary’s) removal for Fele to take over.

Sources confirmed Auxilliary and his followers massively supported the emergence of Makinde as the Governor of Oyo state.

‘’So they believe it is not right for those that supported the opposition to remain in charge of the union with the man they supported now in charge of the state government. That is the cause of the recent skirmishes’’ societynow.ng learned.

Societynow.ng learned that before the skirmishes Auxilliary had reached out to current state Chairman Ejiogbe to allow for a peaceful takeover.

Auxilliary reportedly premised the move on claims that he didn’t contest it when the party he supported lost the election and he was removed as NURTW chairman and Fele and his Ejiogbe crew took over.

Insiders disclosed to societynow.ng that the Ejiogbe and his backers rebuffed the move and the Auxilliary team decided to them headlong.

Societynow.ng learned that Makinde’s proscription of the NURTW is to avert the mayhem about to be unleashed and provide room for a suitable environment for those he trusts to take charge of the affairs of the Union.

‘’The talk amongst transport Unionists is that Auxilliary is back in charge based on the kind of support he provided to help Makinde become the new Governor of Oyo state’’ societynow.ng learned.
