Adebutu All Set To Finally Get Major Win Against Abiodun – Sources
a new political battleground for another face-off
Ladi Adebutu, the face of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, is all set to finally record a political win against the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, according to street sources.
Abiodun, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), is serving the second term of an unbroken tenure that began with his 2019 gubernatorial victory.
He has had the upper hand in every political contest against Adebutu since then, including the fiercely contested 2023 gubernatorial election and the battle to install their preferred candidates as council bosses in the November 18, 2024, local government elections.
Both men hail from the same local government area — Iperu in Ogun East Senatorial District.
Presently, the House of Representatives seat for their federal constituency — Ikenne/Remo North/Sagamu — is vacant following the January 15, 2023, demise of Adewunmi Onanuga.
Insiders say the development has created a new political battleground for another face-off between Adebutu and Abiodun.

Although the constitution stipulates that a by-election must be conducted within 90 days of such a vacancy, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is yet to officially declare the process for replacing the late lawmaker open. However, those in the know insist that Adebutu has been quietly dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s to ensure the PDP clinches the seat.
The late occupier of the House of Representatives seat was a member of the APC and a staunch ally of Abiodun.
“So, securing the House of Reps seat for his party will be more than just a political victory for Adebutu — it would serve as validation of his long-standing protests against every previous win by Abiodun and reaffirm his unrelenting claim that he remains a formidable political force in Ogun State. And he is keen to achieve this,” sources say.
The popular politician is widely regarded as one of the few who command one of the four most powerful political structures in Ogun State.
According to insiders, as part of his well-grounded preparations, Adebutu has handpicked a preferred candidate and mapped out a clear winning strategy.
“The word on the street is that he is ready to secure a major win and is only waiting for the official declaration of the process to unveil his plan,” sources disclosed.
