What is happening to the field of journalism? It is obvious that the profession has lost its credibility as the very foundation of its ethics are being jettisoned on the altar of staying relevant.

This seems to be the case with the revelation that Sahara Reporters actually cooked up the story that the Allison-Madueke family Lawyer in Nigeria, Oscar told them the family was upset with publication of the exclusive interview The Boss Newspaper Publisher, Dele Momodu had with the former Petroleum Minister, Mrs. Diezani Allison-Maduke kin London.

In its story , Sahara Reporters stated that “members of the family as well as the Legal team are outraged” at the interview, but in actual fact no such conversation took place.

www.thelightnews.com can confirm that Sahara Reporters did not speak to any member of the former Ministers immediate family and only placed a call to Mr. Oscar Onwudiwe in a ploy to give credence to their concocted story.

In fact our source who is close to Mr. Onwudiwe revealed that in fact the call from Sahara was to protest why it (Sahara) was not given the access to exclusively interview Mrs Allison Madueke. The conversation was that they had broken the story of the cancer and should have been given the opportunity to speak with Mrs. Allison-Madueke.

Mr. Onwudiwe, we were told, never told Sahara that the family was upset or anything of the sort. In actual fact, he had told them as they acknowledged in some parts of the story that he knew nothing about the arrangements that led to the interview or its subsequent publishing in Thisday and later, The Boss Newspaper.

Our source revealed that the family is challenging Sahara to share the recording of the phone conversation they had with Mr. Onwudiwe when they made the call. “I dare them, That recording will reveal that the story was a farce”

In addition, we learnt that Mr. Onwudiwe did not say Mr. Momodu had a good relationship with the Allison-Madueke family because as Momodu had stated in his writing, he had actually only met the former Minister once before the encounter in London.

He wondered why Sahara was bent on discrediting the interview and turning what should ordinarily be a non event into a story, noting that the whole story was based on malice founded on the publication’s inability to get this big scoop and nothing more!

The said interview which has gone viral was published for the past three weeks in Thisday. The cancer-ravaged Minister for the first time answered questions about her tenure, her relationship with President Jonathan and missing billions. As expected, it had generated praise and backlash from Nigerians.
