Abiodun In “Profound Shock & Sorrow” Over Passing Of Loyal Ally Adewunmi Ijaya

The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has expressed deep sorrow over the untimely demise of Hon. Adewunmi Onanuga, popularly known as Ijaya.
Until her passing, she was the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, representing Sagamu, Ikenne, and Remo North Federal Constituencies.
Onanuga passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, after a brief illness, a loss Governor Abiodun described as monumental for Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole.

Speaking during a condolence visit to her family in Sagamu on Thursday, January 16, 2025, the governor conveyed his profound shock and sadness over the devastating news.
“During our visit to her family in Sagamu, we expressed our profound shock and sorrow over this devastating loss. Hon. Onanuga was more than a colleague; she was a loyal and dependable ally,” Governor Abiodun said. “Her unwavering commitment to her duties, marked by reliability, consistency, and hard work, was an inspiration to all who knew her.”
Highlighting her trailblazing contributions, the governor noted that Onanuga left an indelible mark as a legislator.

As Deputy Chief Whip, she championed impactful legislation with intelligence, eloquence, and boldness. Her legacy, he added, will continue to shine in Sagamu, Remo, Ogun State, and beyond Abiodun stressed in a narrative he made after the visit.
Governor Abiodun described her passing as a heartbreaking and irreplaceable loss, not just for her immediate community but for the entire nation. “She was a shining star whose dedication to service impacted countless lives,” he said.

The governor prayed for God’s comfort for the bereaved family and eternal rest for Hon. Onanuga’s soul. “May the Almighty grant her loved ones the strength to bear this immeasurable grief and grant them peace that surpasses all understanding,” he concluded.
Adewunmi Onanuga will be remembered as a remarkable legislator and a dedicated public servant who left a legacy of excellence and service according to the river of tributes – including from the Federal House of Representatives- trailing her demise.
