Fresh Development Renews Talks Of Daniel & Abiodun’s Face-Off
despite claims of a truce
The talks of a raging face-off between former Governor Gbenga Daniel and incumbent Governor Dapo Abiodun are back on the front burner.
This is despite claims of a truce that has mended fences.
The latest round of talks is fueled by a recent happening.
Daniel, the Senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 election, was absent when Governor Abiodun officially launched his re-election campaign on Thursday, January 5, 2023.
Daniel’s absence is consistent with his position on pre-election engagements by Abiodun since the Governor and his loyalists snubbed the flag off of his Senatorial campaign on Sunday, October 2, 2022.
Abiodun who was reportedly opposed to Daniel’s emergence as APC senatorial candidate in Ogun East ordered all flagbearers not to campaign until his go-ahead but the former governor defied him and in retaliation, the incumbent directed a widespread snub by party chieftains and government appointees.
Daniel has refused to be at any of Abiodun’s public campaigns since then.
Abiodun, however, recently offered the olive branch by appointing Daniel as the Deputy Grand Patron of the APC Campaign Council in Ogun state in December 2022. Former Governor Olusegun Osoba was named Grand Patron.
The move was believed to have “ended” the feud with the Governor’s men bandying claims of “no more animosity” about town.
Daniel’s absence at Abiodun’s campaign on Thursday has renewed the talks of a cold war.
The official kick-off of Abiodun’s campaign for another term on Thursday, in Imeko-Afon Local Government witnessed the attendance of party leaders in the state including former Governor Osoba.
