The reason Governor of Edo State Godwin Obaseki is yet to appoint commissioners seven months after he was sworn in for a second term in office has emerged.

Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu made the revelation today, Sunday June 20, 2021.

According to Shaibu who was sworn in along with Obaseki for a second term in office in November 2020, in a report monitored by societynow.ng on thenationonlineng.net

“Governor Obaseki will not appoint people from Benin. He prefers that the people should play up the names of those that they feel should run the affairs of the state and when they bring the names in a couple of days, the cabinet will be formed.

“You can see that the process of getting the names (of likely cabinet members) has started from the grassroots.”

Shaibu who defected along with Obaseki from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to secure victory at an intense gubernatorial election which held on September 19, 2020 made the disclosure at St. Paul Catholic Church, Benin (Edo State) where he attended service as an Altar boy.
