Plans to celebrate the first anniversary of the installation and coronation of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi, the Ojaja II, have been unveiled.
A media outfit, the Mainstreetz Promotions, in conjunction with the Royal Court of Ife yesterday said that it has concluded the arrangement to mark the anniversary with a carnival. tagged: ”Oti se se” (It is positive).

At a news conference in Ile-ife, the Project Lead of the Oti se se Carnival, Mr. Desmond Onyebuchi, said invites were already being sent out to prospective sponsors of the programme scheduled to hold for three days, starting from December 5. He said: “About one million guests, including dignitaries, are expected at the two-day carnival. Top government functionaries at the federal and state levels, royal and traditional rulers, foreign embassies and missions, distinguished associations from Nigeria among others will grace the event.

“So, we are using this opportunity to draw the attention of the public to this upcoming event, which is poised to be one of the biggest cultural shows in Osun State and Nigeria.

“Ile-Ife is the cradle of Yoruba civilisation and to have an annual celebration bringing people together from far and wide is an opportunity that should be utilised. We want to create a platform for entertainment, education and re-awakening of the youths to the cultural values of Odua that will help foster unity and prosperity of Nigeria.”

The Director, Media and Public Relations, Ooni’s Palace, Moses Olafare said since coming on the throne, Oba Ogunwusi has engaged the youth through agricultural and other empowerment initiatives.

According to him, the Ooni’s positive initiatives have brought about drastic reduction in crime rate in Ile Ife and its environs.

He said with the positive results from those initiatives, activities lined up for marking the one-year anniversary would be tailored towards getting more youths engaged.
