2027 Guber: Adebutu Boosts Influence In Ogun Central
further entrenched his political footprint in Ogun Central
Ladi Adebutu, the main aspirant on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the race to determine the next Governor of Ogun State, has boosted his chances.
He has further entrenched his political footprint in Ogun Central.
The gubernatorial hopeful, who traces his ancestry to Ijeun Akoni in Odeda Local Government of Ogun Central, has just enhanced his standing with the Muslim community in the senatorial district.
On Thursday, July 31, 2025, he initiated the foundation laying for a N100 million housing project donated to the Egba Muslim Council.

The project comprises eight units of two-bedroom flats, reportedly sited in Abeokuta North Local Government.
Adebutu’s identification with Ogun Central through both ancestry and good deeds is significant.
His family is widely known to hail from Iperu in Ogun East — the same axis as outgoing Governor Dapo Abiodun.
Abiodun, who is serving on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), leaves office in 2027 after completing two terms (eight years).
There is popular agitation that the next Governor should emerge from either of the remaining senatorial districts: Ogun Central — which has historically alternated with Ogun East in producing governors since the state’s creation in 1976 — or Ogun West, which is yet to produce any.
Ogun Central is the larger voting bloc, and gubernatorial aspirants keen to succeed Abiodun are quickly identifying with it — including Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, widely dubbed Ogun West’s best chance to produce a governor for the first time.

Like Adebutu, the Senator representing Ogun West — famously known as Yayi — has traced his maternal roots to Ogun Central.
However, unlike Adebutu, Senator Yayi is a chieftain of the APC.
Sources confirm that Adebutu’s N100 million donation to the Egba Muslim Council follows his family’s ongoing developmental initiatives in the zone, which include support to hospitals, higher institutions, and social clubs.
Adebutu’s father, Kessington Adebutu, is one of the wealthiest individuals in Ogun State and is renowned for his far-reaching generosity.
Immediately before the foundation laying of the housing project, Adebutu donated a 500-KVA transformer to power seven communities in Abeokuta South — the heart of Ogun Central.
The areas include Ifokanbale, Olorunsogo, Olorungbogo, Olorunhuedalo, Olaoluwa, Irorunde, and Olorunladesa.
These back-to-back moves have increased Adebutu’s political visibility in the region, further boosting his profile as the leader of one of the most influential political structures in Ogun State — a significant development, given that he narrowly lost the 2023 Ogun State gubernatorial election to Governor Abiodun.
