Why Talks Of Senatorial Ambition Are Growing Around Dapo Abiodun
even though he has yet to publicly acknowledge such ambitions
Fresh narratives are emerging around one of the most talked-about politicians in Ogun State, Governor Dapo Abiodun.
The Governor, now in his second term, is increasingly linked to a possible move to the Senate after his tenure ends in 2027.
These speculations persist despite his earlier declaration during his first term that his sole focus was on delivering a landmark performance in his current role.
Governor Abiodun hails from Ogun East, where a fellow party member and owner of a more formidable political structure, Gbenga Daniel, is the incumbent Senator.
Daniel is already laying the groundwork for another term, having secured his current position in 2023 without Abiodun’s support.
The two have since operated on parallel paths despite being key leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State.

Insiders reveal that their differences stem from events surrounding Abiodun’s first-term victory in 2019, a win facilitated in part by Daniel’s collaboration with other political stakeholders.
These differences intensified during the developments that accompanied Daniel’s senatorial ambition.
Although Abiodun has the advantage of controlling the APC structure in Ogun State, Daniel benefits from strong personal ties with President Bola Tinubu, influential decision-makers at the national level, and a loyal following within both the APC and the main opposition, PDP—where he was a top-level stakeholder before joining the APC in February 2021.
Daniel governed Ogun state from May 29, 2003 to May 29, 2011, on the platform of the PDP.
Speculations about Abiodun’s senatorial prospects—reportedly originating from within his political party—are gaining traction, even though he has yet to publicly acknowledge such ambitions. These speculations continue to grow despite Daniel’s entrenched political influence.
