Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, is said to be increasingly unsettled by the quiet resurgence of former Senate President Bukola Saraki.

Saraki, also a former governor of the state, has reportedly rebuilt the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) into a formidable opposition — working discreetly and effectively.

“He did it hiding in plain sight, and AbdulRazaq’s camp didn’t realize until recently,” a source disclosed.

AbdulRazaq, who came to power under the All Progressives Congress (APC), was the chief beneficiary of the 2019 O’Tooge (Enough is Enough) movement that ended Saraki’s political dominance in Kwara.

Saraki lost his Senate seat, and his loyalists were swept out in the political wave that ushered in the APC government.

“They managed to ride on the same popularity — though weaker — to secure another term in 2023,” an insider noted.

Sources, however, say Saraki and his allies only put up a token opposition in 2023, deliberately conserving their energy for a full comeback in 2027.

“The 2023 contest was a test run for Saraki’s strength,” one source said. “It gave him room to rebuild quietly, mobilizing trusted hands beyond public view.”

Now, Saraki is believed to be brokering strategic alliances to consolidate his position ahead of the next election.

“The anti-AbdulRazaq voices are exploiting every issue, especially the worsening security situation, to drive their message,” another insider revealed, and added “Ironically, these are the same tactics AbdulRazaq used against Saraki in 2019 — and Saraki seems to be turning the playbook back on him. That’s why the governor is uneasy about what’s taking shape.”
