Emerging details have revealed why former Minister, Musiliu Obanikoro have submitted self to the humiliation of arrest and detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have a messy public spat.
And not only this admitted to allegations against him – as well as agreed to refund questionable funds that soiled his name home and abroad.
”It is to safe guard the future of his sons and to protect his own political structure” a source stated.
Obanikoro’s sons Gbolahan and Babanjide were indicted and invited for questioning by the EFCC as part of investigation into the mega case of fraud against their father. The sons were revealed to have acted as conduit in the case of diversion of arms funds for election purposes that was plastered all over their father.
Father and sons had scampered abroad to evade the clutches of the EFCC.
The former Minister had waged a media war with the EFCC on the authenticity of the allegations against – and vowed never to subject self and sons to the investigation of the EFCC.
This was until he made a shocking somersault and returned back – immediately surrendering self to the EFCC.

Obanikoro’s absence is said to have provided arch opponent in same People’s Democratic Party, Olabode George much needed room to take control of party structure in the state – and increasingly relevant in the South West.
And for his sons there is the issue of a life put hold.
”They are in self induced exile, branded criminals in the face of the world..and they young men just starting their life and family and already stigmatised” a source explained.

”The game plan was if he was able to secure a plea bargain, it would provide greatly needed room for the embattled family to start putting the pieces of their shattered life back together – and it worked” a source stated.
The former minister was released from EFCC custody after an initial payment of N100m of a pledge to return N680m he admitted to in the case of fraud against him.
Added revelation have it that the plan is for the embattled former Minister is able to prepare fertile ground for a hassle free return of his son once negotiations with the EFCC commences – and his release today (November 4) seen as a good signal by his advisors.
More revelation however have it that the manner of the former minister’s arrest, detention and release didn’t just fall on his lap.
