Not Yari’s Residence — Army Reveals Where Clerics Were Abducted
stressing that the incident did not occur at Yari’s residence
The Nigerian Army has dismissed reports that a group of Islamic clerics were abducted at the residence of former Zamfara State governor and Senator, Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari, in Talata Mafara Local Government Area of the state.
The Army said the victims were abducted while travelling from the Sububu forest axis in Bakura Local Government Area towards Talata Mafara, stressing that the incident did not occur at Yari’s residence.
In a statement yesterday, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, described the report as misleading.
“We wish to categorically refute the claim and set the record straight that no cleric was abducted at Senator Yari’s residence,” Osoba said.
He added that the narrative that the abduction took place at the senator’s residence in Talata Mafara was “entirely false.”
According to the Army, intelligence reports confirmed that “some persons were abducted while travelling from Sububu forest axis within Bakura Local Government Area en route to Talata Mafara.”
Osoba said troops, working with sister security agencies and local intelligence networks, had intensified efforts to rescue the victims.
He urged members of the public to disregard “sensationalized narratives and unverified information” capable of creating unnecessary panic or compromising ongoing tactical operations.
The Army also called on residents to remain calm and vigilant and to provide security agencies with timely and actionable intelligence to support efforts to rescue the victims.
