Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has called on Nigerians to take collective responsibility for the country’s development, declaring that national progress depends on unity, determination and shared action.

Abdul Samad Rabiu made the call after delivering a keynote address at the 32nd Nigerian Economic Summit, themed “Growth That Works: Building Economic Accord for Nigeria,” attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Tinubu.

“The Nigeria we desire will not be built by others, but by us,” the industrialist said, adding “With unity, determination, and collective action, a greater Nigeria is possible.”

The message reflects the position of a businessman whose investments span food production, cement, mining, logistics, energy and other sectors of the economy.

Through BUA Group, which he founded in 1988, the philanthropist has built one of Nigeria’s major indigenous industrial conglomerates, with businesses that contribute to domestic manufacturing and provide employment for thousands of Nigerians.

The performance of its listed subsidiaries underscores the scale of the enterprise. BUA Foods reported revenue of ₦1.77 trillion and profit after tax of ₦518.39 billion for 2025, while BUA Cement recorded revenue of ₦1.18 trillion and profit after tax of ₦356.04 billion in the same year.

Beyond commercial investments, the king of commerce has channelled resources into social development through the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), which supports projects in healthcare, education and social development.

The initiative has backed institutional infrastructure projects, including university development grants and healthcare facilities, extending his involvement in national development beyond industrial production.

His message at the summit therefore places responsibility for Nigeria’s future on a broader footing, linking the country’s aspirations to the contributions of citizens, businesses and institutions.

For African giant , the challenge is not simply to imagine a better Nigeria, but to recognise that building it requires Nigerians to act together.
