Governor Bassey Edet Otu has announced the appointment of a new Sports Commission leadership team, tasking them with rebuilding the state’s sports ecosystem and restoring its competitiveness.

The governor said the appointees are expected to “fix sports, support our youths, and make Cross River shine again.”

The newly named members are Etta Lawrence Itanya, who will serve as Chairman; Queen Gladys Festus; Hon. Njarani Gabriel Ushie; Sunny Ndep Ebam; and Ekpenyong Effiom Okon. According to Otu, their mandate includes rejuvenating grassroots sports, nurturing young talent, and reviving the state’s once-vibrant presence in national competitions.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to youth development, the governor described sports as a key pillar in building a “state that works for everyone,” adding that the new appointments mark another step in strengthening opportunities for Cross River’s young people.
