A presidential spokesperson has revealed how the infamous Kaduna train kidnappers outplayed the Federal Government in negotiation for the release of victims.

The incident that has attracted widespread criticism happened on March 28, 2022, and over 45 victims were abducted.

Telling how the kidnappers outplayed the federal government in negotiation to free the victims, a senior presidential spokesperson Garba Shehu in a report monitored by SocietyNow.Ng on Dailypost.Ng – and used lavishly by other media platforms – told BBC Hausa on Friday that

“The terrorists’ leader demanded the release of his pregnant wife. The government took her to the hospital and she gave birth to twins.

“He was shown that his wife and children are healthy and they were handed over to his parents.

“During the night, the government sent a plane to pick them up. We expect that if they are given these, they will release all the people they are holding.

“But what happened next was that they said they needed money. So don’t say the government doesn’t have anything.”

Reports here and there indicate that the kidnappers have been releasing their victims by piecemeals after payments of huge sums as ransoms by parents and relatives.
