Billionaire industrialist and philanthropist, Abdul Samad Rabiu, Executive Chairman of BUA Group, has been honoured with the Edge Industrial Leadership Icon of the Year award at the Edge Awards 2026, as the group continues to expand its footprint across key areas of Nigeria’s industrial economy.

BUA Group also received the Edge Outstanding Industrial Brand of the Year award at the ceremony organised by MarketingEdge in Lagos.

The awards recognised BUA’s growth and its contribution to indigenous industrialisation and brand development, with the group’s operations spanning food, cement, ports and terminals, construction materials and other areas of the economy.

Receiving the awards on behalf of Rabiu, Group Chief Operating Officer, Chimaobi Madukwe, said the recognition reflected the group’s long-term focus on domestic production and industrial investment.

“Our Executive Chairman believes in local production and in building businesses for the long term, and that belief has shaped BUA’s journey,” Madukwe said.

Adding, “For us, these recognitions affirm a journey defined by long-term investment, industrial expansion and an enduring confidence in Nigeria. They also remind us of our responsibility to keep building, creating jobs, expanding local capacity and delivering value at scale.”

Madukwe thanked the organisers and the wider BUA workforce, whose contributions, he said, made the recognition possible.

Founded by Abdul Samad Rabiu in 1988, BUA has grown from a trading business into a diversified industrial group with interests including cement, foods, ports and terminals, manufacturing and infrastructure. Its two listed subsidiaries, BUA Foods and BUA Cement, have a combined market value of nearly N24 trillion on the Nigerian Exchange, according to figures cited by the group.

The business leader has also built a significant philanthropic platform through the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative, ASR Africa, established in 2021 to support projects in health, education and social development across Nigeria and Africa. The initiative operates on a stated annual $100 million philanthropic commitment.

BUA’s industrial expansion has increasingly focused on sectors tied to essential goods and domestic production, including cement, sugar, food processing and infrastructure.

The group’s latest recognition comes as it continues to emphasise local production, industrial capacity and long-term investment as central elements of its business strategy.

The annual Edge Awards recognise Nigerian companies and brands in the fast-moving consumer goods sector, as well as players in advertising, brand management and public relations.
