Osoba Dragged Into Gbenga Daniel, Abiodun’s Face-Off
pulled into the escalating supremacy battle
Political leader Olusegun Osoba has been pulled into the escalating supremacy battle between Senator Gbenga Daniel and Governor Dapo Abiodun over the Ogun East senatorial seat ahead of 2027.
Daniel, the incumbent, is seeking re-election, while Abiodun is said to be eyeing the seat after completing his second term as governor. What began as a strategic contest has spiralled into a bitter personal clash, with loyalists trading blows despite belonging to the same party — the All Progressives Congress (APC).
As tensions deepen within the Ogun APC, Osoba has come under pressure. Loyalists of Daniel accuse the former governor of staying aloof while the crisis festers in the vote-rich Ogun East Senatorial District, warning that the rift could weaken the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Regarded as the unofficial leader of the APC in Ogun State and a respected elder with influence in the Presidency, Osoba is being portrayed by critics as tilting toward Abiodun — a charge rooted in the governor’s firm control of the party’s “official” structure and his visible deference to the elder statesman.
Daniel’s supporters are now urging Osoba to “act his status” by leading reconciliation efforts. “Osoba’s legacy as a progressive icon is secure,” they argue, declaring “What remains uncertain is how history will judge his stewardship of the Ogun APC at a time when unity demanded courage and silence carried consequences.”
