Once Again, Ladi Adebutu Emerges Talk Of The Town In Ogun Guber Race
has again become a major talking point in the state’s political landscape
Barely weeks after formally securing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State, former House of Representatives member, Oladipupo Adebutu, has again become a major talking point in the state’s political landscape following a massive reception accorded him by supporters and stakeholders in Ogun West Senatorial District.
The renewed attention came after thousands of indigenes from the five local government areas in Yewaland gathered in Ilaro on Wednesday to receive the PDP standard-bearer and publicly pledge their support for his governorship ambition.
The development is attracting political interest because Ogun West, particularly Yewaland, is widely regarded as the political base of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, who represents Ogun West in the Senate and is also considered a leading figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 governorship race.
Political observers believe the reception underscores the intense battle already shaping up for the state’s top office, with both major political parties expected to vigorously court the votes of the strategically important Ogun West bloc.
At the stakeholders’ meeting in Ilaro, leaders from each of the five local government areas of Yewaland took turns to reaffirm their support for Adebutu, assuring him of their commitment to mobilising voters across the district to ensure his victory in the 2027 election.
The gathering, attended by party leaders, community stakeholders and supporters, also featured endorsements from groups that described Adebutu as a candidate capable of providing inclusive leadership for Ogun State. Similar endorsements from Ogun West stakeholders have also been reported in recent weeks, signalling increasing political activity in the district.
Addressing the gathering, Adebutu thanked the people for what he described as a warm and overwhelming reception.
He assured them that their confidence in him would not be misplaced, promising purposeful leadership, good governance and policies aimed at improving the welfare and prosperity of the people if elected governor.
“I appreciate this overwhelming show of love and support. I remain committed to providing good leadership, good governance and shared prosperity for all the people of Ogun State,” he said.
The latest endorsement comes barely two months after Adebutu officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election under the PDP, urging party members to unite ahead of the polls. He subsequently emerged as the party’s candidate, reaffirming his commitment to people-centred governance and inclusive development.
Adebutu, who was the PDP governorship candidate in the 2023 election, remains one of the most recognisable opposition figures in Ogun politics.
His renewed visibility in Ogun West, a district expected to play a decisive role in the next governorship election, has added fresh momentum to the political conversation as parties gradually position themselves for what analysts expect to be one of the state’s most keenly contested governorship races in recent years.
