Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Godswill Akpabio is at the centre of yet another spending spree and growing unpopularity.

Sources confirmed, to drown out the grievances of indigenes and residents and at recently held town hall meetings- the state chief executive had his handlers mobilise his supporters to venues.

And informants disclosed this was perfected at the cost of N250.000 per person.

Information revealed Mr Akpabio and his people were forced to adopt this ploy in the face of growing unpopularity at initial meetings held.

According to a source ‘ at the first town hall meetings, the people really spoke their mind…they told Governor of their grievances…uncompleted projects, particularly roads, unfulfilled electoral promises and stuffs…but it seems all the Governor and his people wanted to hear were applause in the face of suffering and at the follow up meetings, they got that through those we found out were hired specifically for that purpose’

Findings the town hall meeting meant to shore up the popularity of annointed candidate and Secretary to the State Government, Udom Emmanuel as Mr Akpabio’s successor did not go as planned.

Findings further disclosed in Federal Constituencies like Eket, Etinan, Ikono and Itu which he has travelled to, Akpabio was greeted with protests by thousands of placard carrying constituents who were mostly locked out of the venues of these meetings.
Our sources who have been on the trail of the governor on all these trips explained that placards carried by members of these communities had inscriptions like: “we don’t want impositions,” “do not force people on us”, we must exercise our rights to decide those to vote for”, Akpabio, we say no to zoning” all in reaction to the governor’s attempt to sell his choice candidate for the 2015 gubernatorial elections to the people.

Observers analysed the action as growing fallout at attempts to have his way against popular demand by Mr Akpabio.

Sources claim increasing news of this development has continued to puncture the hiring of rented crowds to drum up support at Town Hall meetings.
