What began as a milestone celebration for one of Lagos politics’ most enduring patriarchs quickly transformed into a powerful display of influence, loyalty, and strategic political convergence, as Chief Busura Adedeji Alebiosu — fondly called Baba Bush — marked his 90th birthday in grand style.

The two-part celebration, held across Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25, was more than a birthday.

It was a vivid reminder that even with age slowing his physical movements, Pa Alebiosu’s political gravity remains firmly intact.

The festivities opened with a special Jumat prayer on his exact birth date, April 24, at his residence, drawing family members, protégés, political associates, and close admirers who gathered to honour a man many described as both mentor and stabilising force.

But it was the grand reception at Balmoral on Saturday that truly underscored Baba Bush’s standing as one of Lagos’ rare political unifiers.

In a state where the battle for 2027 political positioning is already intensifying, the Balmoral gathering became an extraordinary meeting point for Lagos APC powerbrokers, aspirants, old rivals, and key stakeholders — many of whom momentarily set aside personal and factional differences to pay homage to the nonagenarian.

From the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) to grassroots political structures, the event assembled a who’s who of Lagos politics under one roof.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led the high-profile tributes, describing Alebiosu as a symbol of integrity, service, and enduring leadership whose life continues to inspire generations.

Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, visibly warm in his interactions, praised the celebrant’s political wisdom and longevity, while former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, hailed him as a bridge-builder whose counsel has shaped countless political journeys.

Former Ogun State Governor, Senator Gbenga Daniel, also joined the chorus, spotlighting Alebiosu’s rise from councillorship in Somolu to becoming a respected member of Lagos’ powerful GAC, calling it a life of uncommon relevance and progressive impact.

The accolades many which heralded the 90th birthday celebration, including from the fame Ransome-Kuti family.

Also spotted were Senator Adetokunbo Abiru, former Senator Gbenga Ashafa, Muiz Banire, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, James Odunbaku, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, and Lagos Commissioner for Information Gbenga Omotoso — among numerous political and social heavyweights.

For many observers, however, one of the most striking sights of the evening was the role played by his first son, Dayo D’Bush-Alebiosu.

With the celebrant largely restricted by age, D’Bush — himself a formidable political figure and Lagos State Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure — became the central coordinating force,

moving across the venue, receiving dignitaries, managing high-level interactions, and ensuring the machinery of hospitality ran seamlessly.

His visibility did not go unnoticed. To insiders, it was both filial duty and subtle evidence of the Bush-Alebiosu family’s continuing strategic relevance.

Security was predictably elaborate, with the elite crowd management reflecting the calibre of guests.

Music icon Wasiu Ayinde Marshal added glamour to the evening, while a documentary chronicling Baba Bush’s decades of political influence, philanthropy,

and mentorship offered guests a reflective portrait of a man many see as a compass within Lagos’ evolving power architecture.

Beyond the glamour, the celebration doubled as political theatre.

At a time when Lagos APC aspirants are aggressively courting endorsements and visibility ahead of looming contests, Baba Bush’s 90th birthday became an unofficial arena for alignment, networking, and symbolic presence.

The message was unmistakable: in Lagos politics, certain elders remain institutions unto themselves.

For decades, Baba Bush Alebiosu has occupied that rare space where grassroots history, political mentorship, and elite respect intersect.

From Somolu politics to GAC influence, from Ijebuland’s Council of Otunbas to Lagos’ power corridors, his reach has remained both broad and durable.

By the time the final guests departed Balmoral, one conclusion was hard to ignore: this was not merely a birthday party.

It was a statement.

At 90, Baba Bush Alebiosu did not just celebrate longevity — he reaffirmed legacy, influence, and the enduring power of a political life that continues to command relevance across generations.
