The battle over who will lead the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) is far from over.

Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, was sworn in as President on Monday, November 11, 2024.

He succeeds Ibikunle Baruwa, who is clinging to a second term in office.

MC Oluomo’s inauguration as NURTW President—a lifelong ambition—followed his election by the Southwest region of the union on Saturday, November 9, 2024, as stipulated by its guidelines.

This development came just a day after the Court of Appeal in Abuja affirmed Baruwa as the NURTW President.

Baruwa secured the judgment in Abuja on Friday, November 8, 2024, but MC Oluomo was elected on Saturday in Osogbo, Osun state and inaugurated on Monday.

“Baruwa has the Appeal Court judgment but does not fulfill the transport union’s constitutional provision of being elected by his region to secure another term, while MC Oluomo has that,” insiders revealed.

Sources disclosed that Baruwa, backed by the Nigerian Labour Congress led by Joe Ajaero, has initiated moves to reclaim the NURTW presidency, leveraging his affirmation by the Court of Appeal.

Interestingly, MC Oluomo played a significant role in Baruwa’s emergence as NURTW President in 2019.

However, their relationship later soured, leading to MC Oluomo’s ambition to become the union’s leader
