Believed Deeply In Our Potential – Aregbesola Mourns Buhari
describing him as a principled leader
Former Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has joined the nation in mourning the passing of President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a principled leader whose life was defined by service, integrity, and unshakeable belief in Nigeria’s unity.
In a heartfelt tribute released shortly after the news of Buhari’s death broke, Aregbesola expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the former Nigerian leader who died today in London after a prolonged illness.
“Today we bid farewell to President Muhammadu Buhari, a leader who served Nigeria with deep conviction and unwavering principle,” Aregbesola said. “His commitment to integrity and national unity defined his public service.”
Aregbesola, who served under Buhari from 2015 to 2023, noted that Nigeria had not only lost a former Head of State and two-term elected President, but a rare kind of statesman—one who never wavered in his values despite the pressures of power and politics.
“Nigeria has lost a statesman who believed deeply in our potential as one nation,” he stated. “We have gained the enduring example of a leader who remained true to his values.”
The former Minister offered prayers for the repose of Buhari’s soul and extended condolences to the late President’s family and the Nigerian people.
“May Allah forgive him, accept his service, and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus. Our prayers are with his family and all Nigerians in this moment of reflection,” Aregbesola said.
President Muhammadu Buhari’s passing marks the end of an era in Nigeria’s political journey—one shaped by his stern discipline, patriotic fervor, and a vision of a country greater than the sum of its challenges.
