Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde is facing heat from his promise to ‘’turn waste into wealth’’ in Oyo state.

On December 17, 2017, Makinde while campaigning to become the governor of Oyo state twitted on his handle @seyimakinde 

‘’Our plan is to turn our waste into wealth by recycling and upcycling. This will be good for our environment, create direct and indirect employment, and impart our people with skills that will set them up for life. #SeyiOnUnemployment #OmiTuntun2019 #OyoState #PDP’’

The message was also replicated on other social media handles.

But just six months after he became governor, Makinde is not turning the ‘’waste to wealth’’, societynow.ng gathered that rather the Oyo governor is threatening to jail the people dumping waste in the state.

Insiders disclosed that Oyo state is currently battling a huge waste disposal problem.

And things have gotten so bad that Makinde has accused his ‘’opponents’’ of bringing in waste from Lagos and Ogun states to portray his administration in a bad light.

Attempts have been made to arrest ‘’some individuals’’ by the Makinde government to curb the waste menace societynow.ng learned.

Insiders disclosed that Makinde is taking very heavy flaks on and offline for his inability to cash into the waste problem and turn into wealth and direct and indirect employment like he promised during his campaign.

The Governor’s problem is magnified by political opponents using every opportunity to tell the people of the state that Makinde only preyed on their sentiments to get to power – saying things they wanted to hear but not feasible.

The deepening waste trouble in Oyo state is said to be fast eroding the goodwill that brought Makinde to power as more people buy into rising anger against the new government.
