No Beef With Elumelu! – Dangote Breaks Silence On False Claims, Threatens Legal Action

Dangote Industries Limited has issued a forceful public rebuttal to what it described as a wave of falsehoods, fabricated publications, and unauthorized AI-generated content targeting its President, Aliko Dangote, firmly denying reports of any rift between Africa’s richest industrialist and fellow business magnate Tony Elumelu while also threatening legal action against individuals and platforms behind the claims.
In a strongly worded disclaimer signed by Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Dangote Group dismissed as “false, malicious, and baseless” a publication titled “Aliko Dangote Speaks Out on Why He Distanced Himself from Tony Elumelu.”
“The Dangote Group has become aware of a publication titled ‘Aliko Dangote Speaks Out on Why He Distanced Himself from Tony Elumelu,’ which is false, malicious, and baseless. At no time did the President or the Group make such statements or express such sentiments,” the statement said.
The rebuttal comes amid growing concerns over the rise of misinformation, digital impersonation, and AI-enabled reputational attacks targeting leading corporate figures, with Dangote Group signaling that it will no longer tolerate what it sees as coordinated attempts to weaponize false narratives around its leadership and strategic investments.
Beyond debunking the alleged feud with Elumelu, the conglomerate also pushed back against claims that the development of the multibillion-dollar Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals project was financed through personal loans from friends.
According to the company, such allegations amount to a deliberate distortion of facts surrounding one of Africa’s most ambitious industrial projects.
“The Group categorically rejects claims that the development of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals was financed through personal borrowing from friends. These assertions are wholly inaccurate and constitute a deliberate misrepresentation of facts,” Chiejina stated.
He added, “As a matter of principle, Aliko Dangote neither finances his projects through personal borrowing from friends nor engages in lending arrangements of that nature.”
The statement also directly addressed speculation about strained ties between Dangote and Elumelu, Chairman of Heirs Holdings and founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, describing such insinuations as entirely false.
“Equally false are suggestions of any estrangement between Aliko Dangote and Mr Tony Elumelu, with whom he maintains a longstanding and cordial relationship,” the company said.
The clarification is significant given the towering influence both men wield within Africa’s private sector.
Dangote, through cement, fertiliser, sugar, and refining, remains one of the continent’s most consequential industrialists, while Elumelu has built a reputation as one of Africa’s leading investors and philanthropists through banking, energy, and entrepreneurship development.
Industry observers note that false narratives involving prominent business leaders can have far-reaching implications for investor confidence, public trust, and market perception.
