Sir Kessington Adebutu, the renowned philanthropist and business mogul, marked his 90th birthday on Thursday with a monumental gesture — a donation of ₦4 billion to support development projects across local governments in Remoland.

At a symposium held in his honour in Iperu Remo, the nonagenarian announced that the funds would be distributed among the three local government areas in Remoland — Ikenne, Sagamu, and Remo North — with each receiving ₦1 billion.

Another ₦1 billion was set aside specifically for Iperu, his hometown.

He explained that the gesture was his way of giving back to the communities that shaped his life and business journey, adding that the funds were meant for projects determined by the people themselves. “The people know what they need most. This is their money to use for what will best serve them,” he said.

Widely known as “Baba Ijebu,” Sir Adebutu is one of Nigeria’s most influential entrepreneurs and philanthropists. As the founder of Premier Lotto Limited, he built one of the country’s most recognized indigenous gaming brands and earned a reputation for his consistent investments in education, health, and community welfare. Beyond his gaming empire, Adebutu holds significant interests in finance and industry, including his position as a major stakeholder in WEMA Bank.

His life story mirrors a rare blend of business success and quiet philanthropy. Over the decades, his donations have touched hospitals, schools, and public institutions across the southwest, earning him several national honours and traditional titles.

The Adebutu legacy also extends into politics. His son, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, is a former lawmaker, gubernatorial aspirant, and a key force within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, where he has remained a central figure in the opposition’s political structure.

As dignitaries, traditional rulers, and community leaders gathered to celebrate the elder statesman, the atmosphere in Iperu was one of admiration and gratitude. For many in attendance, Sir Adebutu’s latest philanthropic gesture was another reminder of his lifelong commitment to empowering others and ensuring that prosperity is shared, not hoarded.
