The Chief Executive Officer, Zarttech, Nelson T. Ajulo, has underscored the critical importance of implementing robust monitoring systems to uphold data integrity and security within organisations.

In his presentation for the Cybersecurity Roundtable during the Tech Unite Africa Exposition held on March 27, 2024, at the Muson Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos, he elaborated on the pressing cybersecurity threats confronting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). He underscored the proactive measures that SMEs and individuals can adopt to mitigate vulnerabilities and safeguard their digital assets.

Nelson highlighted key data protection policies for organisations, including the implementation of response plans to address data breaches, the collection of the minimum amount of personal data necessary for legitimate business purposes, and providing transparent information about data processing activities.

“Navigating the complex landscape of cybersecurity threats requires a proactive approach and the implementation of comprehensive monitoring systems,” stated Nelson Ajulo. “Cybersecurity breaches not only compromise sensitive data and erode trust but can also inflict severe financial and reputational damage on organisations, highlighting the critical need for proactive vigilance.”

Addressing data protection policies for individuals, he emphasised the importance of limiting personal information shared online, using strong, unique passwords and enabling security measures, and staying abreast of privacy rights and best practices.

Furthermore, the presentation delved into how emerging technologies contribute to effective data protection strategies, citing actors like GenAI as major threats to cybersecurity, as referenced in a 2024 publication by CNN.

Joining Nelson on the panel were esteemed industry experts, including Nasirudeen Yakubu, Managing Partner of 3logy Limited, and Beverley Agbakoba-Onyejianya, Partner/Head of Sports, Entertainment & Technology (SET) Group at OAL.
